Truter Questions IQ & Quality

Brandon Truter was very frank in his post-match interview after going down 2-1 to 10-men Kaizer Chiefs.

The Natal Rich Boys found themselves trailing at half-time but played almost the full second half with a one-man advantage.

However, Amakhosi even went 2-0 up, with Bay’s last-minute goal just a small consolation and Truter questioning the quality of his players.

“The goals we conceded tonight, a second-phase ball from a set-play and then it was a 5-vs-3 situation with three centre-backs and a two, and we didn’t pick up the second ball and went to sleep,” he said on SuperSport TV.

“There is certain moments in the game where a coach can’t coach, where that situation belongs to the player.

“We can recreate certain moments but there is a million or a thousand different moments which belong to the player. That’s where the decision-making, awareness and a bit of quality comes in and I feel a just let down by that tonight.

“Because some decisions were baffling tonight, especially with time on the ball. With the men down Chiefs gave to us, we kicked it away, we rush things and our composure was let down.

“These are moments where it comes down to IQ, to awareness and it comes down to quality and that’s where I think we lack tonight.

“But it’s an ongoing process, we can’t let our heads down. We still have a game in 72 hours, we have to travel back tomorrow, then rest and then come back. Yeah, get over it quickly, I’m a bit disappointed in certain individuals but it’s a process.”
