AmaZulu FC co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has dropped a major hint that new signing Bongani Zungu could finally feature for his new side in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby against Golden Arrows in January 2025.
Zungu penned a long-term deal with Usuthu as a free agent after his shock departure from Mamelodi Sundowns in June 2024.

The former Mamelod Sundowns midfielder has already impressed Usuthu coaches after he was spotted speaking with the likes of Ethan Brooks as well as youngsters from DDC, though Vilakazi admits that it will be difficult for him and Sandile Mthethwa to break into the team, especially since they are doing well.
“Pressure will always be there. They are competing, so, but what I can say is that it’s not even going to be easy for them as well to break into the team,” Vilakazi told the media after their 1-0 win over Cape Town City.
“The team has been doing well, but I think I highlighted last time when I was talking to the media, people saying that they are not only coming to have an impact in playing but also to make sure that we have a lot of youngsters from the DDC who are playing the similar positions as them, so, and I was very much happy.
“Just before we left in our last training session, I saw Zungu, he was talking to three boys from the juniors and coaching them, or just advising them, and I was very pleased with that. So, that’s the contribution that we expect from an experienced player like him.

“But, in terms of playing, he will add value,” Kanu added.
“We are looking forward to having him, maybe against Golden Arrows, and Mthethwa, Mthethwa cannot play as of now, Zungu has been suffering just from the match fitness, but we were trying to fast-track him, and he’s looking good now.
“So, there is a possibility to see him play against Golden Arrows.”
Usuthu take on Arrows on Saturday, 4 January 2025.
