Vilakazi – We Needed It More Than Pirates

Richards Bay head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi says they needed three points more than Orlando Pirates after they stunned the Soweto giants at Orlando Stadium.

The Natal Richboyz spoiled the party for Pirates, who needed three points to move into second place after Stellenbosch lost the Moroka Swallows 2-0 earlier on Saturday.

But Sanele Barns’ first-half strike secured three points to relegate Cape Town Spurs and move them within two points from safety, where Royal AM sit in 14th position.

“It was a very difficult game, I must say and be honest, but I think I did mention even before the game, that proper planning will do for us as a team facing Orlando Pirates,” he said after the game.

“Lately, they are not child’s play, we were facing a team that’s flying high but we stuck to our plan, we frustrated them and were trying to be strong defensively. We frustrated them for long periods knowing we might get counter-attacks to score a goal.

“The boys stuck to the plan, according to what we planned, we’re happy for the three points, we needed it more than Orlando Pirates, but we’re fighting for our lives.”

Richards Bay face Cape Town City and Stellenbosch in their final two games of the DStv Premiership in their bid for survival.
