Orlando Pirates should’ve been awarded a spot kick in their final Betway Premiership clash of the season against ORBIT College, according to former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani.
The incident occured at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday where the Buccaneers were crowned 2025/26 Betway Premiership champions after 14 years to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns and put their eight-year league dominance to a stop.
With Pirates already cruising in the tie, leading 2-0 in the 73rd minute, Halalisani Vilakazi appeared to handle the ball in the 18-yard area when Tshepang Moremi attempted to play the ball to one of his teammates.
Moremi’s appeal was however waved away by referee Philangenkosi Khumalo, but Hlungwani was slightly critical of the official for not awarding the penalty saying a handball offence had been committed in the penalty box.
“There was a handball there by Vilakazi,” ‘The Principal’ said on Soccerzone.
“You can see that Vilakazi put his hand in an unnatural position, and when a player puts the ball there [on his hand], he’s taking a risk.
“And when the ball make contact with the hand in that position, a handball offence has been committed.
“Look at it there. Moremi plays the ball. Look at the contact there.

“So, that’s a penalty or a handball offence has been committed.
“Penalty should’ve been awarded. It was not given. This is not right!”
