What Next For Chaine After GK Of The Season

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine says it’s going to be a ‘very tough season’ but he’s aiming to improve his performances that earned him the Betway Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season award.

Chaine, 28, has been an ever-present figure for Pirates since joining the club from Chippa United, where he was previously a back-up goalkeeper for most of his professional career.

However, under Jose Riveiro and goalkeeper coach Tyron Damons, he’s been a player transformed, as a member of the senior national team, first choice at the Soweto giants and now reigning Goalkeeper of the Season in the South African top-flight.

Having won the MTN8, finished second in the league, runners-up in the Nedbank Cup and reaching the last-four in the CAF Champions League, it’s time to do it all over again in the 2025/26 campaign for Chaine and co.

“It’s going a very tough season, it’s a new season, what we have done is in the past, the best thing to do for myself is to maintain or get better than what I did last season, for myself personally that’s always the goal,” he said.

“To be a better goalkeeper, to improve certain aspects, I think I can improve this season and have an opportunity to do what I did again – it’s my expectation to do it again.”

Chaine has kept 40 clean sheets in 99 games since joining Pirates and conceded 74 goals, whilst winning three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup crowns.
