Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe has explained why he replaced Puleng Marema who had come on as a sub in their 1-1 draw with SuperSport United in the league on Saturday in Polokwane.
The game was already tied at 1-1 when Marema was brought on in the 52nd minute for Oswin Appollis, who seemed uncomfortable with a thigh strain.
However the former Rise and Shine captain did not last the whole game as he was taken off and replaced with Monty Bahlabane in the 86th minute. When asked why he subbed a sub Mohafe said it was for tactical reasons.
“That one it was a tactic because when you check now, they were bombarding those balls and they were not playing in the middle anymore” Mohafe answered iDiski Times.
“So what they were looking at was just to put those balls up front, and what we wanted to do was to protect the goal that we have and protect the point that we have just had. So I think that one was a tactical sub.”
With the player looking unhappy to go off the coach said such things happen everywhere in the world and they will comfort the 34-year-old.
“Ah this thing happens everywhere in the world,” added Mohafe.
“Putting a player inside and also subbing him but I think he’s a big man he understand the situation. I explained the situation to him and going forward it’s just a matter of comforting him.”
