Yeye – Which Chiefs Youngsters Impressed Me

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane has named Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba as the two youngsters that have impressed him at the club so far this season.

The two are products of the Chiefs development side and had a lot expected from them this season, however also had their campaign interrupted by injuries.

Shabalala has played 26 league matches and has four goals to his name, with Letsholonyane saying in edition 203 of iDiski Times that the 21-year-old did well in the first half but lacked lasting stamina.

The former Jomo Cosmos and Bafana Bafana midfielder also feels that 20-year-old Duba has showed glimpses of his potential in the second round of the season – Duba has five goals in 19 league appearances.

“I think Mdu Shabalala, at the beginning of the season, he was one of the important key players in a game that the team played,” Letsholonyane told iDiski Times.

“Because he is young and inexperienced in a way you cannot really rely on him, it showed, and he burned out; he lost his form mid-season.

“And whenever [Wandile] Duba got his chance, he was showing glimpses of potential, but again, you can’t really put everything on those young players”.

“To answer your question, I think both players at different times of the season, Mdu at the beginning of the season and then Duba now in the second half of the season, are the ones showing the potential of being important players for the team going forward.”
