Kaizer Chiefs have announced their starting line-up for the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium this afternoon.
It is exactly 10 years since Chiefs last lifted a trophy, and that was under the leadership of Stuart Baxter, when hey won the league title. Since then, they went as far as reaching the Nedbank Cup final in 2019 but lost 1-0 to TS Galaxy.
In September 2020, Amakhosi missed out on a league title on the last day of the season when they played a 1-1 draw against Baroka FC, and Mamelodi Sundowns won it by two points.
In June 2021, Amakhosi went all the way to the CAF Champions League final, where they lost to African giants Al Ahly by 3-0.
Since then, they never reached a final; instead, they found themselves dropping in terms of performances season in and season out and even find themselves fighting for a top-eight finish in the last three seasons, including this one.
They might have had a bad season after failing to reach any cup final and currently outside top eight, but a win would change everything for Nasreddine Nabi’s side and possibly even determine his future at the club.
To reach this stage, Amakhosi eliminated amateur side Free Agent by 4-0 at FNB Stadium. In the Round of 16, Amakhosi dumped out Chippa United, beating them by 3-0, before beating Stellenbosch FC in the quarterfinal by 3-1. They shocked Sundowns in the semi-finals, coming from a goal down to beat them 2-1 in their own backyard to advance to the final.
Here is how they line up:
Chiefs XI: Petersen, Kwinika, Miguel, Dove, Solomons, Maart, Cele, Mmodi, Duba, Lilepo, Sirino
