AmaZulu FC co-coach Arthur Zwane has lauded Muhsin Ertugral for being ahead of his time when he played under the Turk during his time at Kaizer Chiefs.
The duo worked together in Ertugral’s first stint as Chiefs coach and post-retirement, Zwane coached Chiefs’ development side before taking up the head coach role. The Amakhosi legend is now at Usuthu working alongside Vusumuzi Vilakazi.
Zwane revealed to Senior iDiski Times writer Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 189 of the newspaper that Ertugral who planted the coaching seed before retiring.
‘10111’ added that Ertugral is one of the best coaches he’s played under saying his methods back in the day, are what some of the biggest clubs in the world like Barcelona are using.
“The man was ahead of the times,” Zwane told iDiski Times.
“He was preparing the team to the tee. On Monday you already knew how you will approach the weekend game. He would take you through a video session minute by minute and make you know of the opposition’s weaknesses and strengths and if you lost it would be from the mistakes he told you not to make.
“He was that type of a coach, more like a fortune teller. I think he was too tactical for SA players; he was at a different level.
“What we were doing, the pressure game, it was even before Barcelona introduced it. Before Barcelona started dominating, we were playing that game at Chiefs – setting pressing traps, combination plays, playing in small areas, coming out of tight situations at high speed, doing synchronised movements, you knew when to go when your teammate was making a run.
“After Muhsin left, the new ones who came were not close to him. He was at a different level.”
