Sead Ramovic’s TS Galaxy shocked Bundesliga side Augsburg FC after beating them a 2-1 to win the inaugural Mpumalanga Premier’s International Cup.
Puso Dithejane opened the scoring in the 19th minute after fine finish following a good combination play between him and Kamogelo Sibelele 1-0.
Galaxy pressed for the second one, creating few chances in chances and closing down the Bundesliga side as quickly as they can.
The Rockets made it 2-0 after Dithejane started the move from a short corner, a good few passes before Marks Munyai played a good cross to Macbeth Mahlangu, who headed the ball at goal but the Augsburg goalkeeper made a save which dropped in the path of Samukele Kabini, who made it 2-0.
Galaxy went into the break with a two-goal cushion, while Augsburg failed to have a shot on target in the first half.
The Bundesliga side started the second half on a high note after coach Jess Thorup made three changes, and they pulled one back in the 50th minute to make it 1-2, with Samuel Essende on the scoresheet.
Galaxy remained solid at the back and looked to catch Ausgburg on the counter, while the German side struggled to threaten The Rockets.
Five minutes before the final whistle, The Rockets were reduced to 10-men after McBeth Mahlangu was sent off after he brought down Masaya Okugawa, who was through on goal.
Okugawa dusted himself up and took the free-kick but Wensten Van de Linde was equal to the task as he made a brilliant save and kept Galaxy in the lead.
Galaxy were crowned Mpumalanga Premier’s International Cup champions after the final whistle. Their next encounter is against Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 next weekend.
