‘Al Ahly Fans Want Sundowns To Beat Pyramids’

Yallakora Managing Editor Hady Elmadany doesn’t think Pyramids FC will get any support from rival fans in the second leg of their CAF Champions League final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pyramids are a fairly new side in Egyptian football with less than 10 years of existence, though they have won their first trophy last season. This term they were competing on three fronts the Egyptian, Cup, their domestic league and the Champions League final, however are still unable to attract big numbers.

Elmadany whose publication is the biggest in Egypt spoke to iDiski Times senior journalist Lorenz Köhler in edition 205 of the newspaper and said opposing fans from power houses like Al Ahly would rather rally behind the visiting Sundowns over Pyramids but they simply won’t show up at the stadium.

“I don’t think fans will go support Sundowns in the 30 June Stadium, especially Al Ahly fans,” Elmadany told iDiski Times.

“They want them to win the Champions League, not Pyramids, but they will not go to the stadium to support them.

“It won’t be easy for Pyramids to attract fans either, it’s not logic for Zamalek fans to support them in the stadium. They will not be interested in the game, they are just neutral for this game – but when you talk about Ahly fans – at home they will want Sundowns to win the game.

“Pyramids are trying to get fans from other regions of Egypt, mobilising youngsters, youth players to bring them to the stadium, but it won’t be easy to bring fans to the stadium to have a full house.

“I would not say Sundowns and Pyramids are anti-fan clubs, they can never be compared on their fans. It’s based on what players do on the pitch – they don’t have the 12th player, as they say.”
