Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso says it would be fantastic for South African football if they could reach the CAF Champions League final with Orlando Pirates.
Pirates secured top spot of Group C ahead of reigning champions Al Ahly and eliminated CR Belouizdad to set up a draw with MC Alger in the last-16.

Meanwhile, Sundowns secured runners-up spot behind ASFAR in Group B to be drawn against Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
Overall, should both Premier Soccer League sides win their respective last-eight clashes, they would avoid each other in the semi-finals and can potentially meet in the final.
“It’s obvious that in this type of international competitions that you should expect that South African teams can do well, so my expectation is that Orlando Pirates can make a good way and why not face each other in the final,” Cardoso said.
“That would be fantastic for South African football, I remember I played myself in a Europa League final when I was in Braga against FC Porto, so it was amazing to have an experience… it would be amazing to have a final with two South African teams.

“So let’s work hard so we can arrive at that moment and why not play a [Champions League] final together [as two South African clubs].”
Sundowns take on Esperance on 1 April in Tshwane before the return leg seven days later in Tunis.
