Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso says the squad is packed with quality players when questioned about the lack of involvement of captain Themba Zwane in the CAF Champions League final.
Zwane, 35, recently returned to fitness after an achilees tendon rupture whilst on international duty with Bafana Bafana and has played a peripheral role in the squad since.
However, he played a role in their late goal in the semi-finals against Al Ahly as they netted a late strike to qualify them to their first CAFCL final since winning the title in 2016.
In the build up to the game, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos refused to entertain questions surrounding Zwane’s lack of minutes but stated he still has belief in him and hailed him for his mental strength to recover from what he deemed a career-threatening injury.
Cardoso was not prepared to engage on why Mshishi was not used in the second leg final, as they lost out 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate for Africa’s elite club competition.
“I totally understand what kind of answer you want or you’re looking for, but now is not the time to speak about individual performances of players,” Cardoso said.
“This group is very qualified, a lot of quality players and obviously Themba is one of them.”
Zwane has featured 12 times for Sundowns this season, with three being starts – contributing one assist.
