Downs’ Special Arrangements For Bafana Stars Ahead Of CAFCL Clash

Mamelodi Sundowns have made special traveling arrangements for the seven Bafana Bafana stars in their squad ahead of the CAF Champions League clash against Young African in Tanzania this coming weekend.

Captain Ronwen Williams, Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba, Thapelo Morena, Terrence Mashego, Teboho Mokoena and Themba Zwane are with the national team in Algeria at the FIFA international friendly series and are also key for their club’s quarter-final first leg in Tanzania.

As a consequence, iDiski Times understands the Sundowns will fly their players straight from North Africa to the East, without them making a turn at home.

“We only receive the players on Match Day minus one. So it’s a bit difficult but it is what it is,” Mokwena told iDiski Times‘ senior write Velile Mnyandu when asked how he manages his squad.

“This is the type of space we are in as a big club with a lot of very important players.

“And so we’ve got to prepare as best as we can and this is why it’s so important at this moment in time to give minutes even to some of the players within the squad and make sure they are ready in case anything happens.

“And sometimes that is to the detriment of the fluidity of the team and the team processes but this window has been so important for us. These last two, or three weeks because we’ve had to make sure that we rotate the squad as much as we possibly can, and while doing that we’ve had to maintain the results maybe at the expense of the performances.”

“But I think we are on the right track. The players are responding very well. They are doing everything that they can to assist the club and I’m very proud of them and very proud of their contribution.”
