Esperance Sportive de Tunis head coach Maher Kanzari says it’s a battle between two of the biggest teams in Africa for a place in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.
The two sides meet tomorrow for the first leg quarter-final, as two of the four African representatives at the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America.
It will be his first game in charge in his third stint since the sacking of Laurentiu Reghecampf before the FIFA International break this month.
“The two teams are both among the biggest teams in Africa, in two legs, we will try… I know that both teams are playing for the win, but tomorrow we will do our best for a result and I guess we will then finish the job at home,” Kanzari said ahead of the game.
Two-time Champions League winner, Ayman Ben Mohamed, who returned to the club at the start of this season echoed the statements of the coach saying they are targeting a result that they can realistically finish off in the second leg in Tunisia.
“It’s a big game tomorrow, Sundowns is a very good club, we know, they have a lot of quality, it’s going to be a difficult game so we’re preparing the best we can and we’re hoping to get a positive result tomorrow to make it easier for ourselves in the return leg.”
The two sides meet tomorrow at Loftus Versfeld at 15h00.
