Khanye Makes Bold Sundowns CAFCL Prediction

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye is confident that Rulani Mokwena and his Mamelodi Sundowns side can overturn their 1-0 first-leg defeat against Esperance Sportive de Tunis in their CAF Champions League semi-final.

Sundowns lost 1-0 to Esperance in the first leg of the semi-final in Tunisia on Saturday, having dominated the game possession wise but failing to score an important away goal.

Bafana ba style enjoyed at least 60% of possession with seven attempts at goal and two on target. However, the Brazilians will need to score more than one goal and ideally not concede to be able to go through to the final.

“I’m telling you in South Africa, Loftus Stadium, Sundowns will go through to the final” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“They will overturn this and win the semi-final. Scoring one goal against Sundowns is not enough, they [Esperance] won’t score here.

“Rulani needs to know one thing, the consistency of playing players even if they have quality outside.

“For example, if you weren’t playing [Mothobi] Mvala in the beginning of the season, you bring him in now, there will be that slight change in him gelling with the team. Even if the player is quality you might encounter problems.

“I mean Mshishi hasn’t played some games, you could see that he was struggling a bit, even Divine Lunga, yes the coach is trying to push him and play him.

“Champions League is won on experience, those teams use experience to their advantage because they will score from the first whistle and go and sit at the back and you need to be smart to break them.

“And Sundowns they need to be ruthless in front of goal, they need skilful players and I’m not just talking about dribblers, yes we know what Mshishi can do but they also need players similar to [Relebohile] Mofokeng.”
