Junior Khanye has congratulated Mamelodi Sundowns for making the final of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League after a 1-1 draw with Al Ahly in the second leg of their semi-final tie on Friday.
Sundowns forced a late own goal from Yasser Ibrahim to stun the defending champions in front of 75,000 in Cairo and book only their third final in the tournament.
The former Kaizer Chiefs winger applauded the South African champions for their mentality and fighting spirit until the last minute.
“Well done to Sundowns, well done to South African players,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“I think Sundowns players applied themselves on the field, especially psychologically. Well done they showed character and a never say die attitude and not stopping until the final whistle.
“It was a game of two halves and Al Ahly defended too much and missed a lot of chances in the first half. Sundowns overall performance was questionable but their coach won the game.
“Well done to the coach for winning but the way how he won it… Let’s compliment Sundowns before people think we are jealous.
“Well done to Sundowns and I think South Africa has benefitted with Sundowns in the final and we wish them the best.”
