Maniema Coach Doubts Moroccan Giants Can Topple Downs

AS Maniema Union head coach Papi Kimoto says Mamelodi Sundowns are still favourites to win the group and suggested the ASFAR and Raja Athletic Club won’t come away with results in Tshwane.

The CAF Champions League group stage debutants and lowest-ranked team in the competition came away with a point after a 0-0 stalemate at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday evening.

It was a result Kimoto said he would have grabbed and signed for with both hands if offered from Sundowns before the game, showcasing their delight at the point.

“I’m satisfied with the performance of the team, the players suffered together, played together, we have the opportunity now, playing two games at home, if we win the two games, we might be first in the group,” he said.

“We have nothing to lose, we playing without pressure and today, our players gave it all. We are a team, a so-called small team, playing without pressure.

“Sundowns are high-level, a good team, and they still have the chance to top the group, I don’t believe the two other teams [Raja and ASFAR] will get away with one point at Loftus, but at some point we made them doubt themselves, that we could have scored.

“We’re happy with one point but Sundowns are still favourites to top the group, Sundowns are favourites.”

Union will now host Raja in their next Champions Leauge clash in Kinshasa at the Stade des Martyrs.
