Pitso Poses VAR Question After Hilal Draw

Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has questioned why Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR) is not being used in the CAF Champions League group stages.

The reigning champions laboured to a 0-0 draw in their Group A opener against Al Hilal in the blistering heat Khartoum heat on Friday afternoon which the home side looked the more dangerous of the two.

Despite not having a notable refereeing error, the Champions League has been plagued by officiating in seasons gone by which Mosimane feels should be attempted to prevent.

“How do we still not have VAR yet. It should be used in the Champions League group stage,” he said before stating the point in Sudan was one they’ll take.

“It is a satisfying result for us. We came here to win and we had a chance to secure the three points with Afsha’s shot that hit the post.

“Al Hilal are a better side compared to last year. They have a strong squad and they are good in attack and defence.

“It is a difficult group with four big teams and everyone has a chance to reach the next round. Winning was going to be a better start, but an away draw against Al-Hilal is okay.”

The Red Devils returned to Cairo last night as they now turn their attentions to Misr Lel Makasa on Tuesday before the Mamelodi Sundowns showdown on Saturday evening.
