Rayners Touts Sundowns Teammate For Europe

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Iqraam Rayners believes his teammate Jayden Adams could make a move to Europe with his quality and time still on his side.

Adams, 23, has settled in seamlessly into the Sundowns set-up since his lucrative mid-season switch from Stellenbosch and has become a mainstay in Miguel Cardoso’s midfield alongside Marcelo Allende and Teboho Mokoena.

His form also saw him return to the senior national team with Hugo Broos after previously losing his place due to what was deemed at the time as disciplinary issues by the Belgian.

Rayners who played alongside the midfielder back in their days in the second tier and in their debut top-flight season before his move to Gauteng, with SuperSport United knows first-hand of the rise of the technically gifted talent.

“I know Jayden’s ability since [playing with him] at Stellenbosch, I know his qualities also, he’s a good player that’s fit in quickly at Sundowns, I know what he is capable of doing, I’m just happy he is here with us, it’s a good opportunity for him also moving forward [in his career],” Rayners said.

“He is technically good, there’s many players here that’s also good, they always help him to improve his game, they give him advice because he is still young.”

While Rayners acknowledges his move will take him to greater heights, having also made the switch from Stellies this season, he believes he can still make a move abroad, given his age.

“He was 12 years old when he joined us in the First Division, he was already good, you could see there’s something there,” he added.

“And I think after the years he improved and improved, I’m happy for him, I think in the next one or two seasons he could go to Europe.”
