Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says he’s a bit disappointed with the result but they still have their own fate in their hands in the CAF Champions League.
Pirates remain unbeaten and now move top of Group C with five points from their opening three games with an away win over CR Belouizdad, and now draws against Al Ahly at home and Stade d’Abidjan this evening.
Evidence Makgopa gave Pirates the lead on the brink of half-time but Ousmane Meite leveled matters with well-worked set-piece routine for the West Africans.
“Well it’s a point that gives us an opportunity to be leading the group at the moment,” Riveiro said after the game.
“Three games to still play in this group, plenty of opportunities for all the teams in involved, we came here with the intention to get maximum points.
“But there was an opponent also, who did many things very well, so if I think about the number of opportunities we didn’t use in the first 25 minutes of the game, maybe it makes me a little bit disappointed with the result.
“But overall, with the efforts of the opponent, and very difficult circumstances to play football – I’m not fully happy with a point but it’s a point away from home and everything is still fully in our hands.”
It was the home side’s first point in the group after losing to both North African sides, while their fixture was postponed due to Al Ahly taking part in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup on the same day.
