Riveiro – We Won’t Play For A Draw

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has insisted he side will not just aim for a draw against Al Ahly even though it would be enough to secure top place in their CAF Champions League group.

The Buccaneers currently sit at the top of Group C with 11 points, while Al Ahly are second with 10 – meaning a draw would be enough for the Soweto giants to stay atop.

But Riveiro insisted his side are looking for three points in Cairo, after the two sides drew 0-0 in the first leg in Orlando a few weeks ago.

“It’s an opportunity for us to consolidate our position in the group,” he stated.

“It’s true that if we’re sharing the points we can continue in that [top] position, but our way to do things is not speculating.

“We want to play a good game, I think both teams are in a position that allows us to play good football, to put a good show and that’s our intention.

“We’re going to try to win the game, but let’s see what happens during the game and in the last state of the match as well, to see what is a good result for us.

“But our intention from the beginning is to be ourselves, to play a good game and hopefully to be the better team.”
