Rulani Makes Tau Admission Ahead Of CAFCL Showdown At Loftus

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena admits Percy Tau has transformed into a new role this season under the management of Marcel Koller at Al Ahly.

The Sundowns academy product has struggled with injuries over the past 12 months but since returning to first-team action, he’s been an ever-present figure for the Red Devils.

It’s been a notable change from his false nine role and inside forward positions, which he often had under Pitso Mosimane as Tau now enjoys a free-roaming position within a very structured Ahly 4-3-3 Ahly set-up that often morphs into a 4-2-3-1 at times.

“Percy is playing completely different [this season], the last three games were also completely different as compared to where he played against us,” Mokwena said when asked by iDiski Times about his role under Marcel Koller.

“Against us, in Cairo, he played three different positions in 90 minutes but very good player, one of our best exports and I don’t speak too much about him because he’s not a Mamelodi Sundowns player.

“I need to have a lot of respect by what I say and how I speak about players that aren’t my players and second because maybe I’m a bit bias of course in my opinion about Percy so I try not to say too much – so I will leave it at that.”

Tau has netted three goals in 16 games across all competitions for the Club of the Century this season.
