Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has remained defiant after their 1-0 first-leg CAF Champions League semi-final defeat to Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
Sundowns suffered a slender defeat with Yan Sasse, the Brazilian forward, netting the only goal of the game in Tunis on Saturday evening.
The South African champions enjoyed 61% possession, with seven shots at goal, with two on target, but Taraji got the important goal in the opening half to take to Tshwane next week.
“I think with a lot of humility, at half-time because the game is over two legs, let me start off by congratulating Esperance in victory, and also Mamelodi Sundowns as I’m extremely proud of the efforts of my player,” Mokwena said.
“I thought we were brave on the ball, we defended very well, we suffered together in moments when we had to suffer against a very good team. I don’t think… when I watched the games of Esperance, Club Africain, the two games against Hilal, ASEC, I don’t remember any team dominating them here at home as we did.”
The two sides will do battle for a place in the final of Africa’s elite club competition on Friday evening at 20h00.
