Mamelodi Sundowns have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League after a 2-0 win over MC Alger in a frenetic Group C finale at Loftus Versfeld.
In the build-up to the fixture it was a tale of former head coach Rulani Mokwena returning to his old stomping ground for the first time since his exit at the club, against current head coach Miguel Cardoso – who has divided opinion of fans in recent weeks.
But Cardoso managed to make it three wins from three against Mokwena, having previously beaten the South African tactician in the semi-finals, home and away with Esperance, in his final season with Masandawana.
January signing Brayan Leon bagged goals in each half to secure the win in Tshwane while Al Hilal beat St Eloi Lupopo 1-0 in Rwanda to win the group.
