‘Sundowns Never Showed Up’ – Khanye

iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye has questioned Mamelodi Sundowns‘ combination play in their CAF Champions League draw against ASFAR in Morocco on Saturday.

Sundowns picked up another point following their 1-1 draw against the Moroccan giants which sees them in second place in Group B with two points.

The former Kaizer Chiefs winger says Manqoba Mngqithi’s charges did not play their normal game as they could not combine up front and had no plan to penetrate the opposition’s defence.

Khanye also believes the coaching does not match the players’ quality; a problem Sundowns did not experience previously with former mentors.

“They never showed up, I need to be honest,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“Many of the Sundowns players I don’t think they were themselves I’m talking about the team’s overall performance and individuals as well.

“Let’s start with their front three they never even combined in the middle playing too far from one another. They couldn’t combine with the guys playing in the centre. So, very bad the way Sundowns plays.

“The way Sundowns is playing is not convincing especially in this Cup. There is no build up, they are no longer playing in departments. They want to score surprisingly they want to score miraculously.

“On the African continent everybody knows about Sundowns and not because of the hype but because of the football that they used to play under Pitso Mosimane and Rulani Mokwena.

“But now, it looks like everybody can beat Mamelodi Sundowns especially in CAF.

“On the field Sundowns has better players but the coaching side I think the coaching is poor.”
