Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro insists the type of football people want to see will be on display when they take on Al Ahly at Orlando Stadium.
Pirates and Al Ahly both won their opening Group C games and face off in Soweto today in a sold-out affair within the scorching summer heat.
And Riveiro says his squad is up for it as they look to measure themselves against the record 11-time African champions, the Red Devils.
“They must [be mentally ready], they are playing Orlando Pirates, we’re working and fighting so hard to have the opportunity to play these types of games and it’s an opportunity for all of us to show what they are made of,” Riveiro.
“Their ambition, the football [ability] they have, and this is an opportunity that we have to take. Results are not in control in football, you can be the better team and lose the game – we are tired of seeing those types of games.
“We have to make sure that we can develop a good performance, they can be themselves, it’s the only way we can beat opponents when we are ourselves and [Al Ahly] is no exception – we’re not going to find a different Pirates tomorrow on the field.
“We’re going to be the Pirates people want to see and the Pirates we want to see as usual – then the result is not under control, a lot of things can happen.
“We can be the worst team on the day and win the match, this is football. But the performance and attitude, intention is in our hands and we’re not going to fail in that.”
The two sides do battle at 15h00 at Orlando Stadium.
