Mamelodi Sundowns Chairman Thlopie Motsepe delivered an inspiring message to the club’s players on the eve of the CAF Champions League final praising the team’s effort for their journey in the tournament.
The Brazilians were on the brink of becoming the first South African team to win Africa’s elite club competition for just the second time but were outdone by Pyramids FC at 30 June Stadium in Cairo as home side ran out 2-1 winners for a 3-2 aggregate score.
Motsepe encouraged Miguel Cardoso’s charges to go all out and be proud of themselves for the hard work they put in leading up to the finale.
“Whether we know it or not, tonight is the last night that we gonna be eating in this hall together as Champions League challengers,” Motsepe said on Mamelodi Sundowns TV.
“Tomorrow when we come back into this hall, we gonna know our fate who we are.
“Never take it for granted gents. Never take it for granted how important it is to be here.
“And how hard you guys have worked; how hard everybody here has worked to bring the football club to this point.
“But I wanna tell you guys, the president, the board we all so proud of you guys really. We haven’t been here before.
“You are the group that has taken us to the doorstep of greatness and it’s important that the people at this table, people around you, we all believe with so much faith that you’re gonna finish this story as champions. It’s your destiny.
“And for us at this tournament, we had to every game, we had to win. The pressure of winning was high in order to get where we are. We have to enjoy the moment.
“Because there’s no team that can stop you guys when you enjoy your football. When you play the way that you play.
“The way the whole continent knows Mamelodi Sundowns to play, so I just wanna tell you guys, everybody here we’re behind you.”
