Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has shed light on Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s lack of game time, insisting that the midfielder must work hard to earn his place in the team.

The 26-year-old has featured in just two matches across all competitions this season, making one appearance in the Betway Premiership and another in the MTN8.

In last seven matches, he was an unused substitute on one occasion and was left out of the matchday squad for the other six games.

Da Cruz has clarified that there is no problem with the midfielder but stressed that he needs to prove himself in training to get more opportunities.

The French coach also pointed to stiff competition in midfield, with players such as Mduduzi Shabalala performing well and making it difficult for Ngcobo to break into the team.

“Nothing happened, there is no issue with Mshini,” said Da Cruz during the press conference on Thursday at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“There’s competition, there are other players who play in his position, like Shabbala, for example, he has been performing well.

“Mshini just needs to continue to work a lot. And if he continues to work a lot, he can hope to get his chances, as he already had against Golden Arrows in the MTN8 Cup.”
