Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thapelo Morena insists the reigning African champions are ready to embrace the challenge of defending their CAF Champions League crown, despite knowing that opponents will be determined to stop them from retaining the title.
Masandawana lifted the prestigious continental trophy last season and are now targeting back-to-back triumphs, with Morena expressing confidence in the squad’s ability to repeat that achievement.

The versatile attacker acknowledged that winning the competition again would require Sundowns to take responsibility for their status as champions, drawing on their domestic experience of handling expectations after success.
“As a team, it’s something we take up responsibility. We believe in it, we can [win it back-to-back], we are willing to do it,” Morena said.
“We have done it at home in the PSL, we have experience of, after winning, what’s happening next.”
Morena also expects Sundowns to face a different level of intensity from their continental rivals, who will be eager to dethrone the defending champions.
However, the 33-year-old believes the Brazilians’ mentality and performances on home soil will remain crucial as they pursue another historic campaign.
“We know teams will come all out against us, never mind who is there. When they come to our home, playing in our soil, you know the difference. We give everything and that’s the most important to do on the pitch.”
