Fadlu Davids’ Simba team fell to a 2-1 defeat to CS Constantine in their CAF Confederation Cup group stage fixture at the Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui in Algeria on Sunday evening.
It was a battle for the top spot in Group A with both teams having won their opening games.
While the home team had the early chances, Davids would have been delighted to see Mohammed Hussein put the Tanzanian giants into the lead from a tight angle in the 25th minute, scoring from a cross-come-shot that floated over the goalkeeper.
It gave Simba the score advantage at half-time, despite Constantine having more opportunities.
But after the break, things turned as Abdulrazack Hamza conceded an own goal in the opening minute of the second half to level matters.
And the home team were in front in the 50th minute as Brahim Dib fired in the Algerians’ second, and what proved to be the winner.
Constantine moves top of the table on 6 points, while Simba remain on 3 and are joined by Bravo Do Maquis who beat CS Sfaxien 3-2, with Abednigo Mosiatlhaga scoring the first for the Angolan club.
