Fadlu Davids inspired Simba SC to a come-from-behind 3-1 thumping victory over Al Ahli Tripoli to reach the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup group stages at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday afternoon.
The home side was left shell shocked as Agostinho Mabululu pounced on a loose ball to tap into an open net just 17 minutes in.
In the 35th minute, Simba leveled matters through Kibu Denis who produced a magical overhead kick to make it 1-1 after Tripoli players failed to clear the danger.
It was 2-1 on the stroke of halftime for Fadlu Davids’ charges as Leonel Ateba capitalized on a defensive error to slot past the goalkeeper and send the home fans into wild cheers.
Ateba then missed a glorious opportunity to grab his brace in the 64th minute, skying his shot into the stands with just the goalkeeper to beat.
Mabululu’s last ditch effort to grab his brace of the afternoon in the 90th minute was acrobatically tipped over the bar by Moussa Camara.
It was however not done as Jean Charles Ahoua made it 3-1 in added time to seal the finally nail in Tropli’s coffin as Simba advanced.
