Hunt On CAFCC & Sundowns Clash

SuperSport United head Gavin Hunt has previewed his side’s CAF Confederations Cup clash against Future FC in Egypt after recently taking part in the CAF A Licence course.

The experienced mentor has often complained about the tight Matsatsantsa schedule and playing most of the home games away from home.

The three-time league winners are expected to leave the country on Friday evening to Cairo, Egypt.

Hunt explained that he couldn’t prepare the team much because he took part in the CAF A Licence course and insisted for him it’s about taking one game at a time, with another tough game against Mamelodi Sundowns coming up in midweek.

“Obviously I’ve been away, so we haven’t done any preparations really. We’re just trying to get a squad that we can balance over the two games, because Wednesday we’re playing again,” Hunt told the media.

Immediately after facing Future on Sunday afternoon they will have to fly back to South Africa and prepare for the Tshwane derby against Mamelodi Sundowns just three days later.

The clash will be even more tricky for Hunt because his first-choice goalkeeper Ricardo Goss and on form talisman Etiosa Godspower Ighodaro won’t be able to face Downs as part of the loan agreement between SuperSport United and Sundowns.

“There’s no time to do any work, then on Tuesday it will be recovery which is what is all about, obviously our squad size is the problem, players can’t play on Wednesday as well so that thins us even more, so we have to be very careful what type of team I take today,” he continued.

“I can’t even think about others, I just think about Sunday and then try put a team, obviously it’s going to be a very strange team because we have to manage this group, we have lots of senior players than kids.

“So, we will have to manage these things, these kids will have to step up a bit more and it is a great platform for them to play this CAF Confed Cup.”
