It’s the first time Amakhosi are competing in CAF inter-club competitions since reaching the Champions League final, losing to Al Ahly back in 2021, while it’s their first time they have reached the Confederation Cup group stages.
“We have a bit of history with Zamalek, everyone knows from ’93, our only time we played them, everyone knows the result, everyone is going into this tournament, playing to win and we know it’s two very important games for us, and very excited at the task of facing the Egyptians, I think off the bat,” Motaung Jr said.
“Of course we’re going out there to get maximum points, everyone is, you have to use a bit of experience in these away ties, but even at home, we’re quietly optimistic about the threats we also pose and looking forward to very tough but exciting ties. And to our fans, it’s great to have you back in continental football – looking forward for you to enjoy, we’re coming back with three points.”
Chiefs take on The Green Eagles at 18h00 on Sunday at the iconic 86,000-capacity Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
