Stellies Learn CAFCC Fate

Stellenbosch has been drawn in Group B alongside RS Berkane for their debut in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

Stellies, who are reeling after their MTN8 final defeat to Orlando Pirates will now turn their attention back to the league and continental commitments.

Steve Barker’s side secured a place, unseeded, in the group stage draw after beating Linafoot giants AS Vita Club 3-0 in aggregate.

However, they managed to secure a third-place group spot in the draw which had Bafana Bafana legend Siphiwe Tshabalala and Florent Ibenge involved in the process.

“These groups are fairly balanced, the draws often times much better after the games, because people can be excited about the speculation [of what might happen] but before the games take place you can’t predict what happens,” Ibenge said.

“With regards to Group B, you know a bit of my heart lives in Berkane, I wish them the very best and the others excellent games as well, it’s an amazing group that will give the competition the shine it deserves.

“It’s a competition that is helping African football make a name of its own and I wish everyone success.”

Despite their inexperience, they will be seen as one of the dark horses for the title given their incredible rise and exploits over the past 12 months in South Africa.
