Stellenbosch FC qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup knockout stage despite suffering a heavy 5-0 defeat to RS Berkane in their final Group B match on Sunday.
Steve Barker’s charges trailed 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Oussame Lamlioui in the seventh minute and Yousseff Mehri’s strike in the 15th minute.
It was 3-0 in the 66th minute through Paul Bassène, which saw the hosts finish top of the group with an unbeaten streak of five wins and a draw to move to 16 points.
Stellies on the other hand finished second in the group with nine points to make it to the next round in their CAF inter-club competition debut.
Youseff Zghoudi added the fourth in the 80th minute before Bassène rounded off the rout in the 88th minute with his brace to all but seal the three points and finish the group unbeaten.
Stellies can be proud of themselves having achieved the remarkable feat of reaching the next round in just their first season in continental club football.
