An elated Steve Barker said it was a momentous occasion for Stellenbosch after they booked their place in the Carling Knockout final.
It is the first time the Cape team has reached a cup final, and they did it in style as they beat Richards Bay 3-0 on Saturday.
Barker said his players deserved their place in the showpiece, but said they must now go on and win the trophy.
“Obviously emotions are really ecstatic,” Barker told SuperSport after the game.
“These players deserve what they are getting, into a final. I can never ever fault the way they work, their commitment, their attitude.
“First half, we weren’t really at our best, it looked a little bit nervous, obviously a semi-final. We were sort of a little bit off the pace, didn’t move the ball quick enough but I thought second half, obviously once we got the first goal and then we got the confidence and the belief, I thought then we controlled the match and nice then to get the second and third goal.
“Ja, a momentous occasion for the club, our first final but, it’s not about making the final it’s now winning the final. So that’s our next objective.
“But we’ll enjoy the day and the moment and switch off, we’ve got to big derby next week Friday, against Cape Town City, and then once we’ve got past that, it’ll be full focus on the final.”
Stellenbosch will find out their opponent on Sunday when AmaZulu hosts TS Galaxy in the second last four game.
