Doc Praises Chiefs Over Khune

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has praised Amakhosi’s leadership for allowing Itumeleng Khune to play in the Carling Black Label Cup for the All Stars team.

Khune, 36, is still suspended from club activities and it wasn’t quite clear whether he’d be allowed to play in the Carling Cup, with the club initially stating he was not eligible and still suspended.

However, there must’ve been some talk behind the scenes between Carling, Chiefs and the PSL, which resulted in Khune running out in the tournament for an 11th successive year.

And repaid all stakeholders, as well as the fans who voted him into the All Star XI, with a Man of the Match performance, with Doctor appreciating the fact that he was allowed to play.

“I think we have to thank all the stake holders, including Kaizer Chiefs for allowing him to play, regardless of his suspension,” he said on SABC Sport.

“Because he wouldn’t be playing if they didn’t say yes, and thanks to Carling and the PSL.

“Here is a boy who given an opportunity, today he is R100,000 richer. And thanks to the supporters.

“Realistically I’d like to believe that sometimes when people talk, we need to listen and not take advantage of them not being clued up of a matter that most of us think we know better.

“But sometimes supporters mean a lot to us.

“Personally, the first thing I was told when I signed is that ‘you put a smile on supporters face’. And for them to have voted for him, there is something that they’ve seen that he still has and in the end of the day, there it is.”
