Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has discussed whether he fears for his future at the club after losing the Carling Knockout final to Magesi.
Masandawana lost their third successive domestic final, with two of those coming last season under Rulani Mokwena, who was replaced by Mngqithi ahead of 2024/25.
But after Sundowns already missed out on this season’s MTN8, losing in the semi-final to Stellenbosch FC, and their shock defeat in the Carling Knockout to underdogs Magesi, Mngqithi was asked whether questions about his future will be asked.
“In football you can expect anything,” he stated.
“If you choose to be a coach, you must expect that in this space our jobs are always under scrutiny every week. Every week we have to deliver.

“It’s unlike a CEO of a company who has to come at the end of the financial year. But with us football coaches, it’s always going to be ‘where are we going, are we going towards the right direction or the wrong direction’.
“But I’m still very optimistic we are going into the right direction.”
Sundowns and Mngqithi have a chance to return to winning ways when they will host Maniema Union in their CAF Champions League group stage opener on Tuesday evening.
Overall, Masandawana have won 15 out of the 19 games under Mngqithi this campaign, losing the other four.
