Mngqithi Makes Lorch Admission

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi praised Thembinkosi Lorch for his performance off the bench in their 5-0 win over Golden Arrows on Saturday.

Masandawana booked their spot in the Carling Knockout quarter-finals with a resounding 5-0 win over Abafana Bes’thende, with Lorch coming off the bench in the 71st minute alongside Teboho Mokoena, while Peter Shalulile came on a few minutes earlier.

After the match, Mngqithi hailed the impact of their substitutes, with three goals being scored after those changes, saying he was very pleased by the showing of Lorch.

“I must say it’s very pleasing to see substitutes really pushing to show what they have for the team,” he told journalists.

“Because we’ve got so many matches and this few minutes that we give them are usually an opportunity for these players to get a full match and try to rest other players that are more established within the group.

“When you see them coming [on] and playing the way they played today – I think against SuperSport we also had some very good substitutions, against Chiefs unfortunately we did not lift the game up with the substitutions – but it was very pleasing to see how the players really showed the hunger to perform [today].

“I was also very pleased just to see Lorch showing the hunger, the level of intensity, the running off the ball, trying to get into positions and also having an assist, that is exactly what I want from a replacement player and I was very excited when I saw that.”

Sundowns were drawn against Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Knockout quarterfinals, with the fixtures set to take place on 2 and 3 November (the exact dates are yet to be confirmed by the PSL).
