Sirino Opens Up On Carrying Chiefs’ Responsibility

Kaizer Chiefs winger Gaston Sirino has opened up on carrying the weight of responsibility at Amakhosi after another Man of the Match performance for his new club.

Sirino, 33, has had a great start to life at Naturena, scoring two goals and setting up three more in his first four matches for Chiefs.

On Saturday, he scored the important opener against SuperSport United to help Amakhosi thump their opponents 4-0 and advance to the Carling Knockout quarter-finals.

But after the match, Sirino insisted that the match wasn’t as easy as the scoreline might suggest.

“Very, very difficult game,” he told SuperSport TV after receiving the R100.000 cheque for his Man of the Match display.

“SuperSport were very good, especially the first 30 minutes, so difficult. But we need to push, we played very well after the first goal.

“But we need to push, it’s Kaizer Chiefs, a very big club. We need to win every game.”

Sirino admitted he was signed to carry responsibility at the club, and a change in mentality under Nasreddine Nabi can be felt among the squad.

“It’s a big responsibility to play for Kaizer Chiefs but I’m here to help the team,” he continued.

“I think also the change of mentality [under coach Nabi] has been important to all of us, because he changed the mentality to win every game.

“I think also the last game against Sundowns we needed to score a little more goals but it’s football.

“Now we need to recover and another difficult game against SuperSport.”

Sirino also left a message for Dr. Kaizer Motaung, who celebrated his 80th birthday last week.

“Also happy birthday to the chairman, he is a legend to us.”
