Nodada – Not Many Can Put Pirates On The Back Foot Like That

Cape Town City midfielder Thabo Nodada has backed himself to help the club improve upon his return and commended his side for showing what they’re capable off in at least one half against Orlando Pirates.

Nodada has yet to feature for the new-look City this season due to injury, where they’ve started with mixed results in the 2024/25 campaign despite major investment.

With 11 signings and three highly-rated promotions from their reserve squad, there’s been optimism that the Citizens will rise to new heights but fell in the semi-finals of the MTN8 to Orlando Pirates and are 11th with four points from three games.

“It’s six games played, two wins, two draws, two losses, it’s square, I don’t think it’s cause for concern, I think if you look at that first half from Pirates in the MTN8, not many teams can put Pirates on the back foot like that,” he said as he continues his road to recovery from an injury suffered in March.

“Those are the moments we have got to pay attention to, learn from and hope to replicate, all you spoke about happened without me on the field, so I’d like to think I have an edge.

“So I’m excited about the prospects of the team. Giving the new guys a chance to adapt to the City, it’s Cape Town, after all, not an easy city to be in. The temperature, the weather but I have full trust in the guys and the players who’ve been there a while, feel the pressure and they will deliver the goods soon.”

City are set to host an unbeaten Royal AM on Saturday evening at Athlone Stadium, who have drawn all four of their league games thus far, with three consecutive goalless games.

“They are a good side, there’s nothing more to it. You look at the negative of them not being able to sign players, but you don’t look at the positive of building around the same people of a long period of time,” he explained.

“We have to give them props to that, and yeah, they’re a good side, I don’t think I can give them more credit than they deserve.”
