Ouaddou On Rising Star Moremi After Wondergoal

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says winger Tshepang Moremi is reaping the rewards of consistent hard work since arriving at the club in the off-season.

The 25-year-old winger joined Pirates from AmaZulu, where he was a regular for the past three seasons with 83 appearances, scoring seven goals, with seven assists to his name.

However, it was a long time coming for the now senior international, Moremi, having joined the club back in 2018 from Remember Elite Sports Academy in Vereeniging, where he then developed via the reserve team and loan stints in the second-tier with Bizana Pondo and JDR Stars.

He showed flashes of brilliance over the last few years but with his move to Pirates, now throwing him into the spot light where every mistake will be scrutinised, he’s risen to the occasion, after a rocky debut where he was jeered by Buccaneers supporters in Orlando.

“It’s fantastic, fantastic performances since the beginning, I always said; people who work hard and believe in themselves, there is always a gift for them, and this guy you have seen he’s working hard since the beginning,” Ouaddou said about Moremi.

Moremi netted a long-range stunner to open the scoring against Magesi in their 2-1 win in the Carling Knockout Cup, to help the Soweto giants advance to the semi-finals of the competition on Tuesday evening.

It was his seventh goal in 14 games across all competitions, and his coach feels it’s just the beginning for the mercurial left footed talent.

“Even you have seen, I think you followed the first steps in the team [when he was jeered], but he always believed in his qualities. Of course, the technical staff was here to give him confidence and to guide him to keep working and give him confidence.

“So, it’s not finish – we cannot say the work is finish, we still keep working with him in order for him to be the best and get better every day. But he shows today again, a fantastic goal, I even went to celebrate with him.”
