Petersen Reveals Major Difference Of New Chiefs Technical Team

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen says the new energy and optimism the new technical team has brought a newfound belief for the 2024/25 season.

Chiefs roped in Nasreddine Nabi in the off-season as he succeeded Molefi Ntseki with the club finishing in a dismal 10th place in the league, led by interim coach Cavin Johnson.

It proved to be their lowest finish in Premier Soccer League history and persuing the Tunisian-Belgian was an indictment of their failure to secure him at the first time of asking when he left Young Africans and eventually joined ASFAR in the Botola Pro.

Having started the season with two wins, 2-1 over Marumo Gallants and 3-1 over AmaZulu, they lost 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns, but the fire remains burning, as Amakhosi sold out three stadiums to kick off the new season.

“I think there’s a difference, it’s just that energy, that belief you know, it’s always been there but I think that light was dimmed a bit because of the past seasons,” Petersen said.

“But with the new technical team coming in, it’s just taking that thing off the light and making it shine again, if you look at the bulk of the players we have, it’s players we’ve had there for a while.

“So it’s just that belief and energy that they’ve brought to the team, making players hungry for the game again, wanting to achieve, wanting to be better, wanting to be the best.

“Playing for a team like Kaizer Chiefs calibre, you want to be the best. Whether it’s in your position or as a team, so I think it’s that mindset of belief and that energy they brought to the team, for me it’s one of the big differences.”

Petersen was speaking at the Carling Knockout launch where Chiefs were drawn to face SuperSport United away from home.
