Carling Cup All Stars team coach Jose Riveiro says some the best things to have come out of the and All Stars side last year were youngsters expressing themselves and some going on to make first teams at their respective clubs.
Riveiro was in charge of the team voted for by fans, a team that went on to defeat former Carling Knockout Cup champions Stellenbosch FC in the Carling Black Label Cup in January.
The side featured youngsters such as the Kaizer Chiefs duo of Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala and Orlando Pirates DDC star Jabulani Mokone, and the coach says the trio did attract a lot of attention last season.
With the Spaniard back again this this campaign, he hopes there will be more youngsters emerging in the team facing Magesi FC this afternoon that can go on to enjoy better careers.
“I think we had a good experience one year ago where players like Jabu, Vilakazi, Shabalala – they had an opportunity and some others as well, but maybe those three were the ones who attracted more attention from the fans,” said Riveiro.
“It was nice to see them in an environment like that, in a final against a tough opponent. The way the boys handled that pressure at that moment and they managed to show the players that they are.
“And right now they are starting also their professional football careers let’s say in the PSL, many of them. And I’m sure that after this game, there’s going to be names on the table that probably are not there right now.
“So yeah, it’s football it’s something that never stops. We are always having the opportunity to seeing new talents and Saturday is going to be the opportunity for that I’m sure.”
