TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has confirmed that he was informed that Bongani Zungu has reached out to Bernard Parker via Instagram to apologise for the incident in the Carling Knockout Cup opener.
Zungu did hit Parker with a tackle in their Carling Knockout clash, which The Rockets won 5-4 on penalties after the match had ended 2-2 after extra-time.
The impact broke Parker’s leg and the former Kaizer Chiefs has already had a successful surgery. However, many were stunned by Zungu’s reaction to the tackle, remonstrating his red card.
On Thursday, Sukazi had told Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000 that Zungu had not apologised to Parker yet, but the Sundowns midfielder has now reached out to the Galaxy forward – while Sundowns have also contacted Galaxy over the unfortunate incident.
“Look, I will give Mamelodi Sundowns the benefit of the doubt,” he told Masekepe Matsebane on Power FM on Friday evening.
“In that, they were in transit almost, preparing to go to Angola. They had to go immediately. So, most likely, they never had the chance to do as much.
“Because they’re a good club. I’m sure they would have done differently had they been around, I’d want to believe so. They’re a good club with good leadership.
“I believe that they will come by. It’s just that now they are held up by their programme. This afternoon [Friday], I did get some message from their legal head, commercial manager Mr Yogesh Singh, offering his support.
“They’re that kind of club. They have a very extraordinary schedule.”
When asked directly whether Zungu has apologised, Sukazi did confirm that Yogesh Singh also confirmed that the Sundowns player has contacted Parker via Instagram.
“Look, part of the message of support I got from Mr Yogesh Singh was that Zungu has been corresponding with Parker, somehow,” he added.
“And, of course, it turns to be correct in that, when I ascertained from Bernard, Zungu did drop him an Instagram inbox or message, apologising on that Instagram message.
“That is in so far as it went. I haven’t heard of anything beyond that.”
