Kaizer Chiefs officially won the 2024/25 DStv Diski Challenge for the first time ever, ending Stellenbosch FC’s two-year dominance.
The writing was on the wall for Amakhosi after a long pending DC case between Chiefs and Chippa United was concluded on Thursday, when Chiefs were awarded three points and moved four points clear at the top.
It meant, they only needed three points from their final two games to clinch the title ahead of the Magesi game on Saturday morning. And while Chiefs did their homework, Stellies even dropped points.
Marumo Gallants shocked the defending champions by taking the lead inside the 2nd minute. Bahlabane Ba Ntwaa made it 2-0 after 10 minutes into the second half, inside the 67th minute Gallants made it 3-0. Stellies had a mountain to climb.
Meanwhile in Gauteng at FNB Stadium Chiefs went into the break leading by 1-0 after Imaam Hendricks opened the scoring. Amakhosi knew a win would crown them champions. Nkosana Mbuthu made it 2-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining, the results in the Cape Winelnads meant nothing with Chiefs winning their game.
Amakhosi join the likes of Lamontville Golden Arrows, Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC in the list of teams that have won the DDC title in the 10-years of their existence.
All Saturday results:
- Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 Magesi FC
- Stellenbosch FC 0-3 Marumo Gallants FC
- Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 Sekhukhune United
