Kaizer Chiefs reserve side has overtaken Stellenbosch FC to go top of the league table, while Mamelodi Sundowns dent Orlando Pirates’ title hopes.
Stellenbosch FC’s start to the new year is the one they would want to quickly forget after they were comfortably beaten 4-0 SuperSport United, with Siviwe Magidigidi too hot to handle after netting a brace.
Amakhosi took advantage of Stellies’ loss, as they came from a goal down to beat Bernard Parker’s TS Galaxy. The Rockets went into the break leading but Chiefs came to the second half guns blazing and scored four goals to make it 4-1. They go top of the table with 30 points and a game in hand over Stellies.
Sunday started with a blockbuster fixture between Sundowns and Pirates. Masandawana managed to keep their title hopes alive after beating the Sea Robbers 2-1 to move level on points with Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers’ title hopes have been damaged as they dropped to eighth place and are now 11 points behind Chiefs and Downs.
Cape Town City kept their name in the title talk after beating AmaZulu FC in a five goal thriller at the slaughterhouse of Malta Park in Cape Town. They moved within four points of leaders Chiefs, as the top five sides are only separated by four points.
