It was a DStv Diski Challenge weekend that produced an avalanche of goals as Mamelodi Sundowns, Stellenbosch FC, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs all cruised to convincing wins in their respective features.
Sundowns returned to action early Saturday morning at the Tuks Stadium against high-flying Cape Town City. Inside 35th minutes, Downs were already 4-0 up with Thapelo Maseko netting a brace, Siyabonga Mabena and Sipho Ngqakabana all on the scoresheet. Things got worst for City as Mabena completed his brace in the second half to make it 5-0 before City pulled one on the road to make it 5-1.
In the Eastern Cape, Joseph Makhanya’s Pirates side made light work of Chippa United with a 3-0 win. Simphiwe Masilela, Siphamandla Msezane and Mehluleli Maphumulo all with solitary strikes to continue their winning streak.
On Sunday, Chiefs cruised nicely by beating Polokwane City 4-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Thulani Mabaso, Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, Kabelo Nkgwesa and Mpho Khethang all recorded their names the scoresheet as Amakhosi moved to 17 points just two points above leaders Sundowns.
Stellenbosch FC closed off the weekend with a thumping 6-0 victory against Golden Arrows. The defending champions were 3-0 up already going into the halftime break with Tyler Cicero, Faiz Abrahams and Cheswyn Philander on the scoresheet. Stellies continued where they left off in the second half and scored another three goals as Kyle Baile grabbed a brace and Tauric Gamildien also getting his goal.
