Spurs Humbles Pirates, Sundowns Go Top

Mamelodi Sundowns took over the top position in the DStv Diski Challenge on Sunday after previous leaders Orlando Pirates lost to Cape Town Spurs.

Spurs welcomed Pirates on a sunny Sunday morning at UWC Sports Ground. The Urban Warriors took control of the game and created few opportunities but failed to convert with the first half finishing at goalless. Tyrene Arendse’s troops came out gun blazing in the second half with Tashreeq Manuels netting a brace to sink Bucs, although they did score a consolation goal

Stellies acted as if they knew what was happening down in Cape Town as they took advantage of the results by hammering Sekhukhune United by 4-1. The Cape Winelands side moved ahead of Pirates with this result, however, a few hours later Mamelodi Sundowns moved top after they beat Richards Bay 1-0 away. They are now on 47 points, two more than Stellenbosch, and three more than Pirates, who are now third.

Kaizer Chiefs moved to 40 points as they beat Moroka Swallows 4-1 while Cape Town City are making a late push, and beat Polokwane City 6-1, with Jody Ah-Shene scoring four goals. City are now 11 points behind the log leaders with nine games to go.
